TMDDG: 52-Mountains

Dear Diary,

We are pushing through the night to get out of the mountains by morning, so I have to write this now while I still have some light left over the horizon. Today was just horrendous! We are still in the bloody mountains and, it becoming very irksome having my horse slip at every loose stone. As we grow nearer towards Alfhiem's land in Asgard the landscape is changing slightly from the blizzard ravaged mountains into thick black leafless trees bowing to the wind. It has changed since I was a child; Thor and I both noticed how the edges of Alfhiem's land have grown to encompass the mountains. Whereas before when you knew you had reached the last of the mountains there was a healthy mile of open land between the forest and the foot of the hills. Thor seems to be more worried than Felagi about the rate of growth in the lands. She has been telling us many stories of her trips through these mountains. The one that horrified me the most was one of an ambush that happened at the foot hills. She told us there were about twenty dark elves waiting at one of the passages into their lands, and instead of asking for a toll or demanding something from her as usual, they just attacked. It was odd behavior, normally dark elves are more reserved and calm in situations. But she told us she lit the mountain pass on fire and killed him all with a flick of the hand. She said she would show us the passage if we wanted; Thor and I generously declined her offer. She shrugged it off and told me that she would teach me the magic if I wanted. I had to give a forced smile in return, because Diary, I almost wet myself thinking of how much power that is to light a mountain passage on fire. I am scared.
